If you have upgraded to Internet Explorer 7 you'll not only notice that it looks different, but also that you may have problems visiting almost every web site on the Internet. In fact you may even have problems on the Windows Update site as well... even if you do click OK to the many security popup windows.
Why? Because there have been changes to the browser's security... yes, Microsoft have shot their self in the foot again. After following the path of their own demise in making a browser that is fun to use while ensuring that other software developers are nobbled. They have plagiarised and been sued and now favour their own developments (such as ActiveX) leaving us with a browser based on unsecure technology and exposing all of us to virus, worms, phishing scams and more.
Internet Explorer has become the most insecure and cumbersome web browser, yet it is still force to fed unsuspecting millions.
The turnaround now is that only ActiveX bundled with IE7 is allowed to run, and their excuse is that they are protecting everyone from malice. Why don't they just own up to the fact that they have pushed a weak product past the point of no return!
A simple test is visiting every day type web sites and you'll no doubt see a pop up window saying "This page uses ActiveX and scripts that may be potentially dangerous... allow or disallow?" Then check the web page code by viewing source. More likely than not there will be no such things on that web page. For example there is no ActiveX used anywhere on this web site.
It's time to move on
Internet Explorer 7 is a waste of your time when you have problems when surfing or business is interrupted. It's also a waste of time for computer and Internet support staff that you compel to help with your problem.
Use Firefox as your web browser
Firefox is a safe efficient browser provided for free and a descendant of the Netscape web browser. Netscape browser usage used to make up for 80% of all web browser usage... until Microsoft started bundling IE with Windows and promoting it as the tool to get more from the web. We used to pay for a Netscape licence and were happy to so because in comparison, the Netscape Mozilla engine was much more efficient. But everyone loves things for free and Internet Explorer became the most widely used browser.
However the Mozilla browser in the form of Firefox is fast returning to popularity. Perhaps it's name comes from "fight fire with fire" and being free, who wouldn't want to give Internet Explore a big miss?
Hassle free web browsing
The first thing you will notice when using Firefox is how clean it looks. Then you may notice that it is not full of promotional junk. Then you may notice that you can safely the web without being pestered to download yet another tool bar or search engine optimiser. And it's free!
Thunderbird is the recommended Mozilla email program which can be easily setup to manage multiple email addresses, create mail footer templates and much more. And it's free!
If you wish to continue using Internet Explorer but don't want the new cumbersome features in version 7, then you can uninstall version 7 by going to Control Panel > Add/remove programs > select Internet Explorer 7 from the program list. This should revert your computer to the previous version. However if you want to avoid it sneaking through in the next Windows Update, simply download and install Firefox and set it as your default browser.
