A three legged dog called Vista Next topic
A three legged dog called Vista
10 July 2008

There seems to be no length to which Microsoft will go to justify their greed and errors. All they want is for us all to buy new licences without which their sales will level off because if everyone already has XP what more would they want from Microsoft.

Vista is pretty but runs like 3 legged dog on every machine that we have seen in our computer repair shop. yes, we have had the chance to truly evaluate Vista across a lot of machines. We have clients upgrading to more powerful computers only to find that their old computer running XP still runs quicker in every instance. Any clients upgrading to Vista on computers that are only a couple of years old have been sorely disappointed... all they ever see is a please wait tumbler while their computer treads water to keep from drowning in add-ons and gimmick junk loading in the background.

And the propaganda is never ending... "XP will no longer be supported for updates within 2 months" and "Vista is the answer to security", it is never ending. Reports about millions of silent users being happy with Vista? How would they ever be heard?

1. Windows 98 runs ok with 32 Mb of ram.
2. Windows 2000 runs ok with 128 Mb of ram
3. Windows XP runs ok with 512 Mb of ram
4. Windows Vista does NOT run ok with 2 Gb of ram!!!

These are just the figures for ram requirements. Processing power has also increased dramatically between 1-4 with each being the power available at the time of release.

And what about security? Instead of fixing the gaping holes that have been exposed by ActiveX, which has been shoved in our faces at the expense of dropping support for more sound technologies and upturning every other Windows software developer on the planet  (dropping support for DLLs, Java and anything that they have tried to steal and been sued over), why don't they just fix their error. But no, Vista's security is the answer... by preventing any software from running that is not made by Microsoft?

So there you have it folks, some real truths from a team leader of a software company that has been having to deal with Micromafia tactics for the last 10 years, and an opinion from the manager of a computer repair business who has seen what is really happening under the bonnet.

Just when Windows gets to be stable Microsoft has to be greedy and manipulate the computer world with an overdressed 3 legged dog.

Please note that there is NO truth to the propaganda that Windows updates for XP will no longer be supported within a couple of months. This is only a scare tactic to make you buy new Windows software that is not an improvement on what we already have. XP will be good for many more years to come.
